Protexure Tips: Niche Marketing for CPA Firms
September 24, 2013In our last post, we focused on what having a niche really meant and how to develop one at your firm. Now, we will tell you how to get the word out about your niche. By following the steps below, your marketing strategy will be more effective and efficient, while reaching your target audience.
1. Build a foundation based on knowledge
The first step in a niche marketing strategy comes before you start any type of planning. You must know the ins and outs of the particular niche that you intend to focus on. The knowledge you have will be the focal point of your marketing strategy and will be the only way to retain clients.
Some ways to build your knowledge outside of handling assignments for clients? Try starting a blog, writing articles, giving speeches, and/or publicly advocate for the clients in your niche. The more you do to exhibit your knowledge, the better.
It is also important to realize that you are marketing to an industry, and not to an area of accountancy. When your potential clients look into your firm, they most likely already know what area of accountancy you focus on. Instead, they want to know if they can rely on you to assist in resolving a specific matter. Make it known that your focus is specific to that market, and make it clear what section of the market your firm specializes in.
2. Build an online presence
Before getting too deep into any other type of marketing, set up a website for your firm that highlights your knowledge and willingness to help potential clients. However simple your website may be, it always pays to have one. If there is room in the budget, make the website easy to navigate and searchable on popular search engines such as Google. If you are paying for web design through a third party, they can help make your website as searchable as possible in order to get you noticed. If you are more tech-savvy, there are plenty of websites that offer some basic Search Engine Optimization guides at no charge.
3. Keep a pulse on the market
It is extremely important to know your market inside and out. This includes staying up to date with all recent developments. With information becoming more accessible and available, there is no excuse not to educate yourself on these matters. Following market participants on Twitter and Facebook is a great way to keep up with the latest information and news.
